The sense of infinity experienced when wandering in the mountains is reflected in the majestic Passeig de Maristany, a central promenade with a wide avenue, developed in the 1920s.
The sweeping promenade flanked by rows of trees became a Republican Government meeting point, as it was also home to the family residence of its President, Juan Negrín.
Designed to the same scale and to include the same features as Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona, it boasts more than 500 trees, most of which are the original beech trees dating back to the time of its construction. The project is thought to be the work of the architect Bernadí Martorell.
